Hanging with the Herd

Join the NSCD herd to learn all you have ever wanted to know about horses and horseback riding. We will explore all things horse including – horse care, feeding, tacking, grooming, various levels of riding, hoof trims with the farrier, and more. Chestnut, Cassie, Yogi, Blackie, Montana, Hawk, Moose and Touch will all be making an appearance along with other special guests. You will have to join us to find out who it will be each week!

No equipment needed. 

Weekly Details: 

  • May 22 - Meet Chestnut, the head of the NSCD herd and learn about horse nutrition and parts of a horse as we groom Chestnut.
  • May 29 - Meet Yogi and learn about the different kinds of saddles - Western, English and bareback.
  • June 5 - Meet Cassie and review parts of a horse and parts of the saddle while tacking up. Learn about parts of a bridle and gaits of a horse.
  • June 12 - Meet Blackie, as well as, some real rodeo riders who barrel race and pole bend. The farrier will teach us about foot care.
  • June 19 - Meet Moose and learn to measure the height of a horse and all about ranch riding.
  • June 26 - Meet Hawk and learn about horse mouth care. We'll go for a virtual trail ride and play NSCD horse trivia.
  • July 3 - Meet Montana and learn about other ranch animals. Learn about the Hunter Jumper world using indoor and outdoor jumps.
  • July 10 - Reunite with PJ. and learn what she has been up to since leaving the NSCD herd. Learn the difference between English and Western riding.
  • July 17 - Learn all you have ever wanted to know about llamas and goats!
